North berkeley bart STATION

Situated in the forested hills of Oakland, this project involves the addition, remodeling, and creation of an accessory dwelling unit (ADU), alongside comprehensive landscape enhancements, to an existing mid-century modern house. The design aims to amplify the inherent strengths of the original structure, emphasizing its strong connections to the rear pool landscape, panoramic views of Mount Diablo, and vistas of the San Francisco Bay visible through the front-facing windows.

Key interventions include the removal of interior walls and non-functional spaces, along with the remodeling of the kitchen, dining, and living areas. These changes are designed to establish an open, light-filled environment that fosters entertainment, relaxation, and a seamless engagement with the unique attributes of this ridgetop location. The project not only respects the architectural integrity of the mid-century design but also reimagines the space to maximize its livability and connection to the surrounding natural landscape.
