INTERLACE, MOUNT SINAI MEDICAL CENTER FACADE

The interplay of simplicity and complexity in architecture can be explored through the fundamental elements of point, line, surface, and space. Wassily Kandinsky, in his theory of "Point and Line to Plane," articulated that from an external perspective, each independent line or shape in a composition serves as an element. However, from an internal perspective, the element is not merely the form itself but the inner tension actively at work within it. This concept inspires a deeper engagement with the dynamic interplay of these fundamental components.

In my design, attention is drawn first to the dark point, which becomes a focal anchor. The primary concept demonstrates how points are formed by the convergence of lines, which guide movement across every surface and ultimately push one into an experiential, representational space. Through this progression, the project establishes a conspicuous architectural point within the Wynwood area and constructs a spatial system that enables visitors to journey through the conceptual evolution: from point to line, from line to surface, and from surface to space.

Simultaneously, the building serves as an expression of how the integration of simplicity and complexity can yield profound architectural outcomes. The design merges these opposing qualities to create a space that is not only visually compelling but also rich in experiential depth and intellectual resonance.
